About the Role

Its very difficult to sum up what exactly this role entails mainly because it is so broad and varied, but I shall do my best to give a general overview. I think the role can be broken down in to three parts:

-Education: As the first part of the role suggests, it’s my job to look after various aspects of your education. This involves sitting on a wide range of academic committees where I represnt your voice and helping you out with an educational matter such as setting you up with grinds, appealing an exam etc.

-Welfare: Again, as the title suggest, it is also my job to look after all aspects of your welfare and general wellbeing during your time here in DCU. If you ever have an issue with anything, then feel free to contact me or come up to my office to chat about it. I’ll do my very best there and then to help you out. Again, it is also my job to ensure that the university is doing their best to look after the welfare of the students.

-The SU: Not only do each members of the SU executive have their own specific roles, but we also work together as a team to help the students. Along with the other officers, I help out with the planning of events, running of the various campaigns through the year (such as SHAG week, RAG week, Please Talk week, Road Safety Week) and generally doing my best to help give the students’ what they want.

As I’ve said, it’s so difficult to describe everything this job does but hopefully this gives a rough idea of what the role entails. Also, here’s another quick bit taken from life.dcu.ie:

Responsibilities

• Looks after all your Academic and Welfare needs, anything that basically affects your well being.
• Runs the Class Rep and Convenor system and sits on lots of committees on your behalf such as Academic Council.
• Is responsible for the promotion, development and implementation of the Union policies on Education.
• Is responsible for updating members on changes in the education system or changes within the educational structure of the University which are relevant to students
• Acts on behalf of the President in his/her absence.
• Acts as the Secretary of the Union’s Executive Committee
